All-Jazz Bands Retreat This Saturday!

The jazz retreat has always been a highlight of the school year, a special opportunity to play with students outside your usual ensemble and to receive feedback from top clinicians. And it’s back! This year’s retreat will take place at RHS all day Saturday Nov. 13 from 9am to 7pm. It will be an intense day of music, learning, socializing and fun!
Schedule includes a faculty concert before dinner, followed by a closing concert featuring vocal jazz students and three big bands.

Marina Albero w/ Roosevelt High School Jazz Band, Earshot Jazz October 2021

(November, 2021) Update: We had a great time recording with Marina Albero and performing her music.  We look forward to participating in the festival next year – stay tuned!

(original post) Earshot’s 2021 Festival Resident Artist, Marina Albero, performs with her piano quartet with Alex Dugdale on saxophone, and then, with the stellar Roosevelt ensemble, who will present her seldom-heard compositions for big band arranged by Dugdale, an RHS alum. $10-20. Livestream, and VOD tickets available.

Notes: This is a stream of a concert recorded by Earshot Jazz on the 19th October 2021. The concert airs from Seattle at 7:00pm PDT, on October 23.

Earshot Jazz and Roosevelt Jazz!

Light rail festivities include JB1 performance on Oct. 2

You may have heard Saturday Oct. 2 is the grand opening for three new light rail stations in Seattle! The U District, Roosevelt and Northgate stations will all hold celebrations as they start service that day. Our JB1 ensemble will be playing at the U District station (4300 Brooklyn Ave NE) from 12-1pm. This is an outdoor performance open to the public. Come watch our students at the inaugural Roosevelt Jazz performance for this school year! Setup time starts at 11:15 AM at the UDPA parking lot, 4227 University Way NE.

We’re kicking off the new school year!

Welcome back to the Roosevelt Jazz community! We’ve had our first Roosevelt Jazz Boosters meeting Sept. 7, a festive welcome picnic Sept. 8, and most importantly our jazz students are back in rehearsal. We have 74 students in four ensembles this year including three big bands as well as vocal jazz. If you are a parent or guardian of a Roosevelt Jazz student, you should have received your welcome packet by email; there are 2 required forms to return to secretary@rooseveltjazz.org [website link to Welcome Packet]. Fill out the volunteer survey and consider how you can support our students: we are especially seeking a chair-elect and fundraising chair for our board. Dues commitment forms along with scholarship information will be coming next. And if you’re a jazz fan, check out the opportunity to hire a Roosevelt Jazz combo to play at your next event! (Go to “Support the Program” above, and click on Hire the Band.) We’re so glad to see our directors and students back making music together.
