Jazz Journeys Concert - February 10th (Friday) at 7:30 pm

Fundraising concert for Roosevelt Jazz Band's 2012 Europe Tour

The Roosevelt High School Jazz Band (Jazz Band I) will be joined by Eckstein and Hamilton Middle School Jazz Bands in a concert  to raise funds for Jazz Band I's summer 2012 tour of southern France and Italy.

The concert will be on February 10, 2012, at 7:30 pm in the Roosevelt High School Theatre. The address is: 1410 NE 66th; enter building from large parking lot on 12th Avenue NE (near the athletic field). Admission is $10/person donation at the door. Bring your friends and get ready for a great concert!

Scott Brown and Clarence Acox Honored with City of Music Impact Award

The two were unanimously decided upon for this award because of their extraordinary contributions to the education, enhancement and enjoyment of the City of Seattle's jazz music scene, according to Laura Brewer, Office of Film + Music for the City of Seattle. As nationally-recognized educators and musicians, Acox and Brown have helped shine the spotlight on Seattle's phenomenal young jazz programs, leading to a thriving musical community.

RHS alumni, friends, current students & staff performing around town and items of interest to our community:

  • February 5: Seattle-Kobe Sister City Female Jazz Vocalist Applications Due. Finalists will be selected in early March and invited to give a live audition at Dimitriou's Jazz Alley on March 19. For more information, go to the Seattle Kobe Sister City Association website.
  • February 16 (Thursday) at 6:30- 8pm: Arts Education Forum. You are invited by Mayor Mike McGinn, Interim Superintendent Susan Enfield, Seattle Public Schools and youth for a panel discussion and community forum about arts education. Learn about a coordinated effort to create a comprehensive K-12 visual and performing arts plan for Seattle Public Schools. The district recently received a grant from The Wallace Foundation to engage the community in developing a plan to provide greater arts education access citywide. A reception will follow the forum. Location: Seattle University's Pigott Auditorium in the Pigott Building, 1017 E. Marion Street. For more information, visit the Seattle Public Schools website.
  • Royal Jazz Session Wednesdays: Roosevelt jazz alum, Gus Carns (piano), will be hosting a session at the Royal Room, 5000 Rainier Ave. S., Seattle, 206-906-9920, on Wednesdays from 9:30 - 11:30 pm. For more info., please see the Royal Room's website.
