Roosevelt Jazz Band Wins Second
Listen to the
final concert Roosevelt Jazz Band and Scott Brown swung into second place in the 16th Annual Essentially Ellington Competition & Festival held May 12-14, 2011 at Lincoln Center in New York City. Congratulations also go to Mountlake Terrace High School for placing third. Across the country, 110 bands applied, with 15 bands receiving invitations to New York.
Outstanding soloists:
Ian Mengedoht, Alto Saxophone; Xavier Del Castillo and
Adrian Noteboom, Tenor Saxophone; Nick Conkle, Trumpet;
Andrew Karboski, Trombone; Chris McCarthy, Piano.
Katherine Stuber was named outstanding vocalist, and
Eric Reiman was named Honorable Mention Vocalist.

Other Festivals
Watch videos of the 2011 Lionel Hampton International Jazz Festival performances. Roosevelt Jazz Band won the Sweepstakes Trophy at 49th Annual Clark College Jazz Festival. The sweepstakes trophy winner is selected from among 60+ high school vocal and instrumental jazz ensembles competing throughout the three day competitive festival. Outstanding high school musician awards were presented to Mac Jaffe, bass in Jazz Band II, and Ian Mengedoht, alto saxophone in Jazz Band. Vocalists Eric Reiman and Katherine Stuber brought down the house during the finals. Jazz Band II received an honorable mention in the 3A category. Jazz Band III placed 2nd in the 1A/2A division and played an outstanding set in the finals at the Viking Jazz Festival! Lise Ramaley received an outstanding musician award for her performance on bass. Jazz Band was named runner-up at the Bellevue College Jazz Festival.
